Naseeruddin Shah blames Rajesh Khanna for introducing mediocrity to Bollywood

Actor Naseeruddin Shah expressed his unhappiness with the way things are in bollywood. And in an interview to a daily, he blamed late actor Rajesh Khanna for it. Shah feels that he was the one to bring in mediocrity in the 1970s and somehow, things continue to remain the same, 50 years later, too. He also said that Rajesh Khanna was a very limited actor and wasn’t the most alert person. He further added that his taste ruling the industry is what made the industry less content-driven. With the departure of black-and-white cinema and introduction of colour, plots became less significant. Since Khanna was highly regarded in those days, the trend, Shah feels, continued.

Furthermore, he is disappointed in today’s generation of actors and is not particularly impressed with their work. He said that while most of them claim to ‘love cinema’, they are all insecure given the choices they make.
